You can detoxify your body in many different ways, by cleansing the liver, kidneys, bowels, and so on. But, don’t forget that the skin is our largest organ. Thus, the question is, is there a way to detoxify the skin? Of course! Dry brushing is a technique that allows skin cleansing, while simultaneously detoxifying the internal organs.
Health Benefits Of Dry Brushing
Dry brushing is very popular nowadays, and is widely used in many spa and health centers. Experts recommend it for its rejuvenating effects – it removes old and dry skin, allowing new, smooth and gentle skin to come into place.
However, restoring the skin is not the only benefit of dry brushing. Also, it can help you with the following:
– Reduce cellulite
– Stimulate the lymphatic system
– Remove dead skin deposits
– Tighten the skin and prevent premature aging
– Stimulate blood circulation
– Trigger digestion
– Remove waste and toxins
What Do You Need For Dry Brushing?
The only thing you need is a brush with a long handle, made of natural materials. Be careful, as experience shows that synthetic brushes are too sharp and can damage the skin. If you cannot find an appropriate brush, then you can use a sponge or a towel (made of natural materials only).
How Does Dry Brushing Work?
You can brush your skin with a dry brush, or you can apply a little bit of oil on it. Choose what’s best for your skin.
In long, straight movements, brush your legs, from the feet upwards. Then, brush your arms, from your palms to the shoulders. You should brush your back from top to bottom, and your belly from the lower part upwards. Brush your chest area in a circular motion. All these movements will direct the lymph to the heart.
Brushing in opposite directions is not recommended because it directs lymph away from the heart, which can cause additional burden on the veins and lymph nodes.
After you’re done with the brushing, wash with water, to remove the old skin cells and toxins that have been released in the process. Then, apply body lotion or natural oil, such as almond, coconut oil, cocoa butter or Shea butter.
It’s recommended to dry brush your skin once a day. Best time for it is in the morning, before showering. For a detailed dry brushing, you’ll only need 15 minutes. But, even 5 minutes of brushing will bring benefits to your health. If you feel sick, you can increase the brushing frequency to 2 times a day.
In places with rough skin, like the elbows, you can apply gentle pressure.
Be persistent and the results will surely come. You’ll notice the first results of improvement in about 30 days after starting the treatment. But, you should continue brushing for at least 3 months.
In addition, if you want to get rid of cellulite, you should dedicate more time to the problem areas. Brush the areas affected by cellulite from 5 to 10 minutes a day. To get good results, you should use this method for at least 5 months in a row.
Avoid dry brushing in areas where your skin is sensitive or damaged (wounds, cuts, spots affected by infection or rash).
Also, keep your brush clean, to avoid spread of bacteria. Wash it at least once a week, with water and soap. After washing, leave it in a dry and airy place to dry well.
